20th January, 2017 | at Kawarayu-Onsen, Gunma Pref.
Need a relaxing vacation where your problems drift away in soothing, warm, natural spring water? Come visit the resort village of Kawarayu Hot Springs, where you can emerge yourself in the healing waters and traditional Japanese culture. A variety of hotels offer a relaxing atmosphere in a traditional setting, where you can enjoy the hot springs, local dishes, and community festivals.
The tradition-filled mystical Yukake Festival is said to have been running for some 400 years, where on the morning of the coldest day of the year January 20th, termed “daikan” (or "大寒"), heroic young men bearing traditional fundoshi-wear splash hot water on one another.
This sight-to-see festival will be held January 20th in Kawarayu Hot Spring’s Ōyu-mae special venue grounds, roughly an hour’s drive away from Kanetsu expressway’s Shibukawa-Ikaho interchange. official website ›› http://www.kawarayu.jp/access.html
